Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the egg and vanilla extract, whipping until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Lightly flour your work surface and roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out your cookies.
  • Carefully place the heart-shaped cookies on the prepared baking sheet.

Baking

  • Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.

Buttercream Preparation

  • Beat 1 cup of softened butter in a mixing bowl until creamy.
  • Gradually incorporate the powdered sugar until fluffy and light.
  • Add milk and vanilla extract, whipping until the mixture is smooth and spreadable.
  • If desired, divide the buttercream into bowls and add food coloring.
  • Transfer the colored buttercream into piping bags.

Decorating

  • Pipe roses onto the cooled cookies, starting from the center and moving outward in circular motions.

Notes
