Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  • On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm location for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Filling

  • Once risen, turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle.
  • Evenly spread the softened butter over the surface of the dough.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on top.
  • Carefully roll the dough tightly into a cylinder, then slice it into 12 equal pieces.
  • Place them on a greased baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake the Rolls

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Prepare the Frosting

  • Beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Serve

  • Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls.

Notes

These cinnamon rolls are perfect for brunch, holiday breakfasts, or just cozy mornings. Serve warm with fresh berries or coffee. Common mistakes include over-kneading the dough or skipping the rising time.
